Again, thanks for being so logical & havin...hi,
Again, thanks for being so logical & having a clear mind.
I agree with you.

I think that traditions and religions should not be mixed. we've had our Indian + Chinese counterparts in Malaysia for a few centuries, and the Malays have been here since the Malacca Sultanate. Of course some of the cultures of these three races dah meresap masuk ke dalam adat masing-masing, just like the Baba Nyonya and the Indian Muslims.

This intergration, or should I say, adaptation of culture is unique to our country (and Singapore). It helps bond us and create harmony amongst us. We understand each other better, we love each other more. Tak kenal, maka tak sayang, right?

I studied in a national school & grew up amongst my malay & indian classmates in the 80s all the way till the mid-90s. we didnt hv such 'sensitive issues' cropping up back then.

What is the problem now? Are the politicians adopting a 'divide and rule' stance? Are they trying to suppress what everyone is thinking and trying to create racial disharmony with suspicions towards other races?
What's wrong with our rakyat now??? Or the politicians?
Why create such a big hoo-ha with minor issues?
What's wrong with the lotus flower, santa claus, etc?
Doesnt it just reflect the harmony amongst the 3 races in the country?
why wanan dig so deep into the 'hidden meaning' / maksud tersirat when it is all in the mind?

Iskandar, i agree with u that there are elements of the salib everywhere. But the problem is, it is just a sign, and if the people dont read too much into it, then it will remain a sign. If they think it is a cross/crucifix, then it is a crucifix. It is just a symbol. The grids of a map, the small letter 't', everything can be misinterpreted as a crucifix. WHERE IS THE LOGIC IN THIS?
Sigh...

I miss the days where we could all mix around freely, without having such suspicions against each other, when being called Cina Sepet or Indian Keling was not a deragatory term, but was an endearment instead.

Once again, no intention to to offend anyone or ignite any racial sentiments.
Peace ya' all.

KITTENAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
